African Working Group appoints TUT’s astute scholar

As part of the Working Group on Extractive Industries, Environment, Human Rights Violation in Africa, Dr Esther Makhetha, a Senior Lecturer at Tshwane University of Technology was appointed as an Expert Member.
A special mechanism overseen by the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights is the Working Group on Extractive Industries, Environment and Human Rights Violations in Africa. The appointment was accompanied by remarks from Dr Makhetha about African women advocating for their voice, representation, and inclusion in decision-making at home, nationally, and internationally. Thus, I am honoured to have been recognized and given the chance to contribute to communities across Africa.”
Human economy scholar Dr Makhetha has an impressive record of publication and is highly regarded in the field. She has a particular interest in agriculture, small-scale mining, trade and development, labour and migration, agricultural reform, land use, land needs, and political economy of rural development. The University of Pretoria awarded her a Baccalaureus Degree in Consumer Science Education (PGCE), a Masters Degree in Agricultural and Food Economics (University of Reading, United Kingdom) and a PhD in Anthropology and Archaeology (Department of Anthropology & Archaeology, University of Pretoria).TUT’s astute
