TUT Young Female Scientists Break Research Barriers. The Tshwane University of Technology Directorate of Research and Innovation recently organized a groundbreaking event on October 20, 2023, at the Pretoria Campus.

This event, dedicated to young female researchers, aimed to spotlight cutting-edge research, share insights into research journeys, and provide valuable academic strategies.

Dr Vathiswa Papu-Zamxaka, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation, and Engagement, set the tone with a welcoming address. She emphasized the significance of showcasing the “crème de le crème” of young female researchers at TUT and highlighted their role in achieving gender equality and empowering women in higher education spaces.

The event theme aligned with the spirit of excellence at TUT, emphasizing progress “from good to great.” It also resonated with the 67th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, focusing on innovation, technological change, and education in the digital age to achieve gender equality.

Prof Georgina Coetzee, besides sharing insights on opportunities at the National Research Foundation (NRF), encouraged attendees to publish high-quality research in impactful journals. Emphasizing the importance of exploration and openness to new ideas, she urged young researchers to contribute positively to societal challenges.

Throughout the event, speakers echoed the importance of diversity and inclusivity in research. They celebrated the unique perspectives and innovative ideas that young women bring to the research landscape, underlining the transformative power of their contributions.
