TUT Welcomes New Director for Sport and Recreation. Assuming office on November 1, 2023, Dr. Mashego brings a wealth of experience to her new role. Starting her career as a Physiotherapist in 1995, she specialized in sports physiotherapy and transitioned into academia, contributing significantly to at least two local universities.

Her journey also led her to senior management roles in prominent national sporting bodies, including the SA Sports Commission, Sport and Recreation South Africa, and the Mpumalanga Department of Culture, Sport, and Recreation.

Dr. Mashego holds an impressive academic background, with a BSc in Physiotherapy, advanced Diplomas in Sports and Exercise Physiotherapy and Sport Management (all obtained Cum Laude), a Master’s degree in Public Health (Cum Laude), and a Ph.D. in Human Movement Science, focusing on fitness.

Her qualifications extend beyond the realm of sports and health, encompassing a designation in Social Entrepreneurship and a Professional Director PD(SA) title. With a remarkable 28-year tenure in the health, wellness, and sports sectors, Dr. Mashego is a seasoned professional and proven leader.

As she steps into the role of Director of Sport and Recreation, the University is confident in Dr. Mashego’s ability to excel, and we extend our best wishes for her success in this important position.
