TUT Chancellor Award Winner Is a Beacon of Excellence in ICT. With immense pride, the Faculty of ICT (FoICT) extends its congratulations to Kearabetswe Tau, a Computer Science student, for earning the prestigious Chancellor’s Award in November 2023.

The Chancellor’s Award is an annual recognition presented to the overall best student in each Faculty who exhibits exceptional performance throughout their academic years. The event, hosted by the Chancellor or a designated representative, is celebrated annually following the spring graduations, with the awardees’ parents, guests, and partners in attendance.
Prof Tinyiko Maluleke, TUT Vice Chancellor and Principal, remarked, “The Faculty of Information and Communication Technology has magnificence and excellence personified in one, Kearabetswe Dinah Tau. Academically pursuing her Advanced Diploma in Computer Science, with a passion for Karate, Kearabetswe’s achievements are awe-inspiring. When she enters the Computer Science job market, it will experience her impact profoundly.”

As the recipient of the Chancellor’s Award, Kearabetswe Tau becomes a beacon for aspiring ICT professionals. This honor transcends individual achievement, reflecting collaborative efforts, mentorship, and support received from lecturers, mentors, and the broader academic community. It underscores the importance of fostering an environment that nurtures excellence and encourages students to aspire to new heights.
Dr Etienne van Wyk, Executive Dean of FoICT Faculty, highlighted the exceptional nature of Kearabetswe’s achievement. Notably, she enrolled in the extended version of the course due to not meeting admission requirements for the mainstream Diploma in Computer Science. Despite this, she excelled and passed the Advanced Diploma cum laude.
Reflecting on her accomplishment, Kearabetswe shared, “Being chosen for FoICT’s Chancellor’s Award was a real honor and reward for my dedication to my studies. Although not the best or smartest student in high school, enrolling at TUT motivated me to excel. Therefore, I consistently exceed my potential.
Although I currently work as an IT Audit Associate, this award has inspired me to pursue my studies further. I plan to enroll for my postgraduate diploma in Computer Science next year, aiming for consistent high performance despite anticipating challenges in juggling work and studies.”
Shalate Davhana, Alumni Relations Manager from the Directorate of Advancement and Partnerships, emphasized the strategic collaboration between the University, Industry, and Alumni as the key ingredient in mobilizing necessary resources for the benefit of students and graduates. The increasing support from TUT Alumni and individuals further enhances various programs at the University through donations, mentorships, and support for programs offered.
