An elite athlete and Masters student from Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), Taylon Bieldt, recently broke two national and international records during the International Meeting of Athletics in Lucca, Italy.
Talented TUT Masters Student Breaks Two Athletic Records
At 12:81,Bieldt broke Rikenette Steenkamp’s 2018 record for the 100m hurdles in South Africa. By breaking the five-year old world record and qualifying for the Budapest World Championships in 2023, she clocked at 12:76. The time of 23:13 which Bieldt ran in the 200m Women was also a new meeting record for her.

A talented sprinter of her generation, Bieldt has competed in the 200 metres (23:13), 400 metres (53:02), 800 metres (2:19.09), 400 metres hurdles (55:82) and 100 metres hurdles this year.
TUT Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Tinyiko Maluleke, congratulated Bieldt on her brilliant wins, calling her a shining example of a future-ready TUT graduate. “She is inspiring and we are looking forward to welcoming her back on campus with pomp and circumstance,” he said.
