A respected leader in business and society, Professor Hlengani Mathebula, has been appointed to Shoprite’s board as a member of the Advisory Board of the Tshwane School of Business and Society (TSB).
Over the course of his career, Prof Mathebula has held positions at the South African Reserve Bank and the South African Revenue Service, where he gained over 35 years of experience in the financial services industry.
Prof Hlengani Mathebula Joins Shoprite Board
Previously, he was CEO of FNB’s personal banking division and managing executive of Absa Private Bank. During his tenure with the Black Business Executive Circle, he was also president.

Professor Mathebula currently serves as the executive director of Ignite Africa Advisory Services Group, as the chairman of the Media Development & Diversity Agency, and as a board member of the Health Professions Council of South Africa.
Mathebula Agriculture and Tourism is another entity he founded in which he has interests in farming and tourism.
Since serving as Deputy Director of SARS, he has experience in governance, international relations, strategy, security, and communications. He has been delegated to act as Commissioner by the Minister of Finance.
His broad experience makes him a valuable partner and senior advisor at Cornerstone Capital Partners, a boutique investment and strategic advisory firm. As the Community Representative on the HPCSA board, he was also appointed by the Health Minister in November 2020.
