Incubator Programme Generates Wil Opportunities in Tourism Management

By signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in April 2023, the Department of Tourism Management at Tshwane University of Technology will be able to offer Work Integrated Learning (WIL) opportunities for Tourism Management students, who will be placed at Bidtravel’s Corporate Office in Parktown, as part of the Bidtravel Abazayo incubator programme.

With the program, candidates will be supported through a ring-fenced business incubator program. To hone and enhance their business acumen, they will receive resources, training, mentorship, and support from a team of experts. Center income will be generated through a variety of activities.
Due to South Africa’s current unemployment rate of more than 33%, Bidtravel has realized that even highly promising graduates might face difficulties finding employment. To this end, TUT and Bidtravel have partnered to identify talented travel and tourism graduates with a keen entrepreneurial desire. For their businesses to reach their full potential, these entrepreneurs will have access to professional office spaces, resources, training, mentoring, and the support of experienced professionals.
As a result of the city’s location, partners and clients will have easy access to these young entrepreneurs as well as facilitate their convenient travel throughout the city.
Prof Ndivhuwo Tshipala, Head of the Department, opened the event with a welcome address. Beaulah Bam, the Bidtravel ICT Operations Manager, and Kele Lakalake, the Harvey World Travel General Manager, provided more information regarding this exciting opportunity and invited students to apply for the first WIL at Bidtravel, which will offer placement and a stipend to 12 students.
In addition to the opportunity to gain experience in every Bidtravel Brand, the candidates will also get a chance to gain knowledge in BushBreaks, New Frontiers, Travel Connections, Cruises International and World Travel.
