As President of the South African Council for Project and Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP), Lufuno Ratsiku has been appointed to his role after being an active member of the Student Representative Council. Ratsiku graduated from TUT’s Engineering and Built Environment Faculty’s Building Sciences Department with a Master’s degree in Construction Management.

By Section 2 of the South African Constitution and Senate Act No 48 of 2000, SACPCMP has been established as a strategic statutory construction and project management professional body. Professional Construction Project Managers are among the categories regulated by the organization. Assembling Council candidates in November 2022 was done by Patricia De Lille, Minister of Public Works, and the inauguration of the President was done in December 2022.

The new position Ratsiku has been appointed to is an honour, especially given the significant contribution the construction industry makes to the South African economy’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). As part of his contribution, he noted that he hoped the built environment professionals would help the industry and ultimately the overall economy to grow positively following the outbreak of Covid-19. Moreover, he acknowledged that infrastructure development is crucial to regaining our economy’s global standing.  TUT student

“We are looking forward to working with the Council to enhance the career prospects of built environment professionals and contribute to the development of infrastructure,” stated Ratsiku.

As a child of Siloam Village in Venda – Limpopo, Ratsiku grew up not taking the opportunities he was given for granted. Since I came from a very poor family, I know my accomplishments can inspire other young people.

Using his industry experience, Ratsiku is a part-time Project Management lecturer at the Faculty of Management Sciences, where he gives back to the University and students who aspire to follow in his footsteps. TUT student

Ratsiku has been congratulated by Dr Grace Kanakana, Executive Dean at the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment. It is with great pride that the Faculty recognizes his achievements. Taking on the position of President of SACPCMP is a well-deserved and important step for him and we wish him the best.
