Astute TUT Journalism Alumnus Launches Second Book

In May 2023, Kabelo Chabalala (32), an alumnus of the Journalism Department, launched a new book at Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), A Woman, I Am Because You Are (A Femininity memoir).

Young Men Movement (YMM), an organization that creates a new cohort of men throughout the world, is founded by Chabalala, who is also the senior mentor.

In addition to being a columnist, he writes twice a month on Fridays for a daily newspaper. A PR specialist, a writer and a journalist by profession, he is at heart a feminist and a proud mama’s boy by nature.

Among the topics in his new book are masculinity, family, and his first book, A Journey from Boyhood to Manhood (a masculinity memoir).

Explaining the memoir, Chabalala said: “Many people, male and female are where they are today because of the many different women who have contributed positively to their lives.”

“With this book, I want to appreciate the role women play in empowering boys and men and nurturing healthy masculinity.”

He didn’t want to hide behind his childhood pain when he wrote his first book, so he did not include the precious women in his life.

“I struggled with a lot of questions, including why I was forced to grow up without a father and how I would navigate life without him.” When it came to the second book, I knew that I needed to focus on the women in my life. He said, “I believe they deserved one book, and I strongly prefer this one.”. Every chapter in the book begins with a flower expressing his gratitude to every woman and man who has helped him.

“Chabalala’s book is a celebratory one, where flowers can be given to people alive as well as where she can share her pain and celebrate her healing.

Three more books will be written by Chabalala during the next few years, including one on marriage.

Women’s vital role in society and the importance of supporting women in our lives is often not discussed, according to Dr Eric Pule, director of the Advancement and Partnerships Office.

Alums like Chabala represent the University’s pride and he saluted his passion for bringing attention to the role women play in society.
