Astute TUT Engineer and Team Win ISSN International Best Researcher Award
“As part of my team, I received the prestigious ISSN 2023 International Best Researcher Award in the field of Mechanical Engineering. As a result of this recognition, Tlhabadira continues to work hard, push boundaries, innovate, and deliver supreme excellence in the Mechanical Engineering discipline.
Mr. Tlhabadira was an apprentice Turner Machinist, qualified as an artisan, then worked as an engineer and mechanical technician in industry before joining TUT. As a research interest of Tlhabadira, he focuses on High Speed Machining (HSM) with a particular focus on titanium (Ti6Al4V) and its alloys. As part of his work, he is fabricating machining inserts using ceramic materials (SiAlON), with the aim of making them more affordable for tool manufacturers.
International research awards such as the ISSN are among the most prestigious. It is up to esteemed professionals in science, engineering, and technology to decide the award nominees and the award winners. In addition to recognizing and increasing public understanding of science, engineering, and medicine, ISSN’s mission is to grant fellowships to outstanding researchers. In addition to the award, a gold medal was presented.
