What Are the Requirements to Study Teaching at TUT? Admission requirements and selection criteria are essential aspects of the application process for educational programs. What Are the Requirements to Study Teaching at TUT?
Applicants must have a Senior Certificate with a matriculation endorsement or an equivalent qualification. This requires a C symbol at a Higher Grade or a B symbol at Standard Grade in the first language, as well as at least a D symbol at a Higher Grade or a C symbol at Standard Grade for English (second language).
Additionally, applicants must have at least a D symbol at a Higher Grade or a C symbol at Standard Grade for Mathematics.
Applicants with Senior Certificate before 2008
Admission Requirements
- Senior Certificate with a matriculation endorsement or an equivalent qualification.
- C symbol at Higher Grade or B symbol at Standard Grade in the first language.
- D symbol at Higher Grade or C symbol at Standard Grade for English (second language).
- D symbol at Higher Grade or C symbol at Standard Grade for Mathematics.
Selection Criteria
- Applicants must have a score of 12.
Applicants with National Senior Certificate obtained in or after 2008
Admission Requirements
- National Senior Certificate with a bachelor’s degree endorsement or an equivalent qualification.
- Achievement level of at least 5 for home language and 4 for the first additional language.
- Achievement level of at least 4 for Mathematics or 5 for Mathematical Literacy.
Selection Criteria
Applicants must have an Admission Points Score (APS) of at least 25 (excluding Life Orientation).
Assessment Procedure
No further assessment will be conducted. Applicants who meet the minimum APS requirement will be considered until the program capacity is reached. All completed applications received within the specified deadline will be ranked, and only the top-ranking applicants will be selected, considering the Departmental Student Enrolment Plan.
A waiting list will be maintained once the program is full, allowing other applicants to fill the places of those who did not register on time. Applicants will receive official letters from the Office of the Registrar regarding their application status, and they can also check their status on the TUT website.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), Equivalence, and Status
- Please refer to Chapter 30 of Students’ Rules and Regulations for information on RPL, equivalence, and status.
Intake for the Qualification
- January intake only.
Presentation
- Day classes.
Minimum Duration
- Four years.
Exclusion and Readmission
- Please refer to Chapter 2 of Students’ Rules and Regulations for guidelines on exclusion and readmission.
Abbreviations
In this program, the abbreviation “LoCC” refers to Language of Conversational Competence. Modules are offered as determined by the Head of the Department.
